–    How To Focusing Your Mind
–    How To Get The Right Inspiration
–    How To Get & Stay Motivated
–    How To Get Organisedline-break1Preparing Yourself to Studyline-break1PUTTING ON THE APPROPRIATE READING GLASSES
The most important thing is to first, put on your Ethiopian Spectacles, or what other suited spectacles, for non-Ethiopian’s is required, to help to enable you see more clearly, the Ethiopian – African – Black perspective of History, presented here, through these resources and via Imani’s Website. It should never be forgotten that everyone and anyone, regardless of their Ethnic Group, can benefit from being aware of, as well as understanding better, the history of Africans and humanity in generally, from this unique and specific perspective. As it represents a valid, although often disregarded interpretation of where, as a species i.e. humans, we have been, we are now and what our potential is for the future. It should also be noted that both Ethiopian and none Ethiopian spectacles, can be tainted, smudged or completely darkened through the dirt that may have accumulated over the years.line-break1It is therefore necessary to first wipe your lenses clean, so you can see more clearly. This is easily done, but not as easily achieved, HOW? line-break1YOU MUST rid yourself of any thought or idea that divides or discriminates against humanity and fuels intolerance, racism, classism, tribalism, or divides or measures people based upon their; Skin colour (often called race, a misnomer), Religion, Nationality, Political or any other ties and associations.line-break1YOU MUST also extinguish and put aside any form of hate, anger, revenge, shame, guilt, or other negative human emotion or characteristic.line-break1YOU MUST always keep an OPEN MIND, regardless of your current beliefs.line-break1YOU MUST be willing to adapt or change your views and beliefs, when confronted with new information that may challenge your current belief and stance on any particular topic.line-break1YOU MUST always seek to find the TRUTH and not what you want to find, excepting also this TRUTH, even if it hurts, it will only be your ego, which eventually you will have no use of anyway.line-break1YOU MUST approach your studies at all times with LOVE IN YOUR HEART, this is the most import rule. If you do this all other points above will be dealt with simultaneously.line-break1THE GREATEST KNOWLEDGE
The greatest knowledge to have or to know; what actually brings wisdom and makes you wise and enlightened is LOVE, pure & simple. This LOVE comes directly from the HEART in the metaphysical sense, and then manifests in the MIND, then the THOUGHTS and finally it reaches the Brain. It is whilst in the brain that it is confronted by other knowledge or information, mainly dealing with your immediate environment, or recent or past experiences, your likes and dislikes and a myriad of other physical things, stored there.
Wisdom comes from FINDING the BALANCE, between the TWO and FAITH comes from ALWAYS giving the HEART the benefit of the doubt, e.g. SHOWING LOVE. Without LOVE all studies are futile, you may become knowledgeable, aware and even great or famous, but without love you will never know Wisdom, you will never be Enlightened and you will never truly experience this Wonderful thing that we call LIFE.line-break1HOW TO FOCUS YOUR MIND
Focus your mind upon things or people that will help motivate or inspire you to keep on track in your studies. This can literally be anything or anybody, such as a religious icon, your child or another, the world and everyone and thing in it, your ancestors, your future offspring, literally anything. As long as by focusing on this thing, you are motivated and inspired to study and learn more, then use it. Focusing your mind on your studies can be difficult, especially if you have a demanding life, with responsibilities and commitments that take up the greater part of your day, not to mention your thoughts. However having a focus on your studies is also essential to ensure any real and lasting results. Even as little as 1 hour per day, of focus on your studies can produce great fruits if stuck to over a period. So try in amidst all else that is going on, have some focus on your studies. Maybe the points below can help you to achieve this.line-break1HOW TO GET THE RIGHT INSPIRATION
Find also a quote or proverb that encourages you to learn and put it in a visible format (printed on paper or as a poster etc.) and in plain view, where you can see it everyday at least twice a day. Recite it every time you see it until memorised, then find another quote, once the first has been firmly established on your heart. There are many thousands of such quotes to choose from, however if you are unaware of any at this time, then refer to any of the quotes featured throughout Imani’s Website.line-break1HOW TO GET & STAY MOTIVATED
Whatever motivated, encouraged or inspired you to ever look into history in the first place, as a means of being better informed and possibly even a better person. Always keep this firmly in your thoughts. It is likely if you actually remember this, that it did at the time spark or switch on a LIGHT inside, that your intention should be to begin or even to continue to walk into that LIGHT and out of the darkness of ignorance.   Focusing the mind and reciting encouraging statements of people you revere will help to do this, i.e. get and keep you motivated. Nevertheless sometimes even negative things and thoughts can be used positively to keep you motivated, often more so than the positive people & things do themselves.
An example of this is remembering if you are a descendant of African slaves the popular saying and strategy of the slave owners i.e. “If you want to hide something from a slave put it in a book” as a means of motivating yourself, firstly to find what ever has been hidden and secondly, if found proving to yourself that you are no longer a slave, i.e. The TRUTH has SET YOU FREE.line-break1HOW TO GET ORGANISED
To make good progress as well as achieve the most with what you have, you must be organised. This organisation, again starts with the mind, organise this and everything else will follow. What is meant by this is that organisation is determined by stable thoughts leading to regular and precise action.
Similar to focusing your mind, but not specifically on things or people, but on priorities. Poor organisation leads to destruction and chaos, this is normally as a result of poor memory or forgetfulness. Good organisation is a result of remembering and never forgetting. Apply this analogy to NEVER forgetting who you are, what your ancestors have endured for you to be here? Your responsibility to your family, your community, your nation and the human race, and this should help to motivate, inspire and keep you organised.line-break1Imani hopes that his advice, to help prepare people for their studies will be of use to all those hoping; To find the TRUTH AND SET THEMSELVES FREEline-break1DOWNLOAD OR PRINT THIS PAGE (PDF)

Here are some tips and tricks of how to get the most from using Imani’s Website and Study Guide Resources & Toolsline-break1
[1]     Read Imani’s Advice, Preparing to Studyline-break1[2]     Study each topic separately.line-break1[3]     Set up a study schedule for a defined period, e.g. 6 weeks.line-break1[4]     You can decide on any length of time to study, in accordance with your other commitments, however a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 3 months or 12 weeks should be adhered to for each topic to be studied.line-break1[5]     Remember you are only building or setting up a foundation, to gain a broader knowledge base,  each topic can and should become a lifetime study and even after this, you would still need more time to know everything concerning it.line-break1[6]     Complete your schedule and study plan, e,g. how many books you wish to read or time you will spend reading, watching video’s etc.  (this will determine what you can realistically learn and achieve over this period).line-break1[7]     It is suggested that to get any realistic benefit from this research or your study plan you must allocate a minimum of 1 hour per day to your study, e.g. 1hr x 7 days = 7hrs x 6 weeks = approximately 42 hours of study per topic.  Sufficient time to form a good knowledge base, as most Level 1 courses are normally only 30 hrs maximum in the UK.line-break1[8]     Set yourself realistic goals of what you think you want to know by the end of your study.line-break1[9]     Review your study progress at least twice during your schedule e.g if a 6 week schedule then on your 2nd and 4th week. Review you study a maximum of 4 times over the duration of your research.line-break1[10]     Set up a new folder or folders on your computer (device) in order to save your personal notes and to archive corresponding researched material. e.g. Main Folder = My History Research, Sub Folders = Prehistory / Ancient History etc.line-break1[11]     Remember to always identify and select all necessary known available resources needed, before you begin to study.line-break1[12]     Choose what ever method of assessment suits you, to monitor and measure your progress e.g. TEST, GAME. study-guide-banner copy[su_spoiler title=”IMANI’S INTRODUCTION TO: MARCUS GARVEY” style=”fancy” icon=”plus-square-1″][su_tabs][su_tab title=”WHAT?”]Oxford Dictionary Definition: line-break1Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr., was a Jamaican political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator who was a staunch proponent of the Black nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements, to which end he founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL). He founded the Black Star Line, which promoted the return of the African diaspora to their ancestral lands.line-break1Wikipedia on Garveyism: Garveyism is an aspect of Black Nationalism which takes its source from the works, words and deeds of UNIA-ACL founder Marcus Garvey.line-break1Imani’s Note: line-break1In answer to the question, Who is Marcus Garvey? We must first understand that this answer depends purely on who is asked. However, what is Garveyism is not so allusive, as whatever or whoever a person thinks Garvey is, whether they know of him and his works or whether they are ignorant to any facts about him, it is fair to say that if asked, What is Garveysim?, they could easily deduce that Garveyism must be an ideology that is based upon Garvey, whoever or whatever it may be. So therefore both the above descriptions are very accurate, as regardless of people’s personal views regarding Marcus Garvey, the facts are that he was and has become, exactly what the above descriptions indicate.line-break1Nevertheless, in addition to these above outlined vocations and the movement he founded, or what he propagated for, and without moving from the known and accepted facts, I would just like to add that Marcus Garvey, was a great leader, as well as being a great visionary. These facts will be self evident to anyone who researches his accomplishments.[/su_tab] [su_tab title=”AIM”]What is the purpose of Studying this subject? line-break1Whether a person agrees or disagrees with what Garvey stood and propagated for, and even with the eventual downfall and dismantling of his movement i.e. his failed plans, with his vision not even coming into its full fruition during his life time or ever since. Nevertheless Marcus Garvey the man, can be a very important topic to study for any student. Motivation or encouragement, to study about the life and accomplishments of Marcus Garvey, should not be determined by whether you agree or sympathise with him. line-break1The study of this particular individual and his specific story should be learnt and analysed, no different from any other great individual in human history that has made and had a significant influence on any branch of the human family. Marcus Garvey is such a person, and in the history of African Black people in particular, from the dawn of time until now, no individual figure has had such a widespread impact upon the thoughts of a generation and those that preceded them as him, or at least, not that I definitely know of.line-break1Any unbiased student will see after learning about what Marcus Garvey actually accomplish, under the circumstances of the times, with the insurmountable obstacles and barriers put before him, not to mention with his limited formal education, would agree that he was a great leader and visionary.[/su_tab] [su_tab title=”POINTS”]Imani’s Key Pointsline-break1activist 3Marcus Garvey is possibly one of the most influential figures in African Black peoples liberation struggles.  Not that he is the only great and influential figure, as there are many, however Marcus Garvey is possibly the most influential, of them all.line-break1activist 3No other individual is celebrated by all African Black liberation groups, i.e. Garvey is revered by; Rasta’s. Nation of Islam (Muslims), Hebrew Israelites (Judaism), Black Panthers, etc. How the founders of these faith systems or political movements are mostly only revered by their respective members.line-break1activist 3No other individual has been able before or since to organise the amount of African Black people both on the continent and in the Diaspora into one group.line-break1activist 3Garvey is revered as a prophet (sent by God) for African Black people, by most if not all New age African Black Faith Systems (1950’s onwards)line-break1activist 3Although Garvey never fulfilled his vision, he did however accomplish his mission, i.e. awaken African people globally.line-break1activist 3The majority of Garvey great achievements happen within a very short period of time during1916-1923, from his visit to the U.S to his first imprisonment, after which, his organization began to disintegrate due to continued infiltration and sabotage.line-break1activist 3When Garvey reached the shores of the U.S, Slavery had only been abolished just 50 years previous. Think of any other person in history you think could be classed as a great leader, have you got one, ok, then based upon what you know of this person, what did they do to warrant these status?. Now measure these things against Garvey and you will find that, where they excelled or achieved so did Garvey. The only difference is whether they were successful overall, but this does not determine whether they were or had the qualities needed to assume such titles. line-break1Let me give you a simple example, was Garvey a great leader & visionary, well he had a vision that he tried to lead people to, he never achieved his ultimate goal, but what he did achieve, was this; organise, inspire and galvanised millions of down trodden African Black people, many of whom were ex-slaves, but also many on the continent, in fact Africans from the four corners of the earth. These people also speaking hundreds of different languages, practicing myriads of different religions, having a diversity of political affiliations, not to mention nationalities into one organization under one banner. A feat not accomplished by any other revolutionary visionary in history, that I’m aware. line-break1Last Note Before You Begin Your Research: line-break1Now you have an idea what this subject area is all about, if you would like to acquire a better understanding of it, then please access the corresponding topic resources above.   By studying these above topics you will no doubt better prepare yourself for any future study of history or any other subject for that matter, as all things are linked, directly or indirectly[/su_tab][/su_tabs][/su_spoiler][su_spoiler title=”IMANI’S MARCUS GARVEY TOPIC NOTES” style=”fancy” icon=”plus-square-1″][su_tabs][su_tab title=”HELP”]Click on the tabs to the right to enter the specific TOPICS.  Find out the relevance of these topics to both African people and humanity in general.  After you have familiarised yourself with these topics with the identified KEY POINTS of interest. heritage?line-break1africaThe life, experience and achievements of Marcus Garvey is of the utmost importance and relevance to African people in the 21st century.  Although many people are aware of many aspects of Garvey life and achievements few people are aware of the specifics or even the time frame in which Garvey was able to achieve what he did.  The reliance is in that after understanding the circumstance through which Garvey endured, the environment and many obstacle and barriers that he was able to overcome, together with the short time frame that all his great work was accomplished.  Offers Africans a true insight into how the idea’s and vision of a would be insignificant poor Jamaican, became through his commitment, determination and endeavours, the vision and aspiration of an entire generation, and all those the came after it.line-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance in world history & heritage?line-break1globeAwareness of Garvey’s life is also of much importance to non-Africans in that it offers them an opportunity to bare witness, not only of a champion of the cause of justice and freedom for all black people, but also Garvey’s actual vision for all humanity after he had accomplished what he had set out to do, i.e. liberate the Minds of African people in addition to this studying Garvey life can also offer an opportunity or prove beyond doubt that African’s can if unmolested and left to their own devises, do for themselves.  This is very important and relevant for non-African as the general consensus of most is that African’s are incapable of Governing themselves.  Although this may seem true at first glance, based on what we are seeing today in many black lead countries, together with what most people have be taught about the history of Africans.  However Garvey’s life and story is a good example to prove that unless an active plan and programme is engaged to prevent Africans from governing themselves, the results will be quickly evident and once out of the bag, never again hidden or foreign to the Minds of both African people and others.   line-break1KEY POINTS TO OPINIONSline-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance to African people & their heritage?line-break1africaIt is very important for African people to find out exactly what Marcus Garvey said, when and in what context.  This is imperative in order to get a true understanding of this remarkable individual and what his true vision was for both Black people and humanity generally.  Notwithstanding that many of Garvey’s saying are known to many Black people, however these words are often taken out of context as people do not take into account the environment, circumstance and times, that these words were spoken.  a good example of this is when Garvey’s words are used to propagate and preach a separatist ideology, often from a anti-white perspective. where as it is true that Garvey frequently spoke about the need for African’s to have a separate identity, country and place they can call their own.  However it should be remembered that this was the actually policy of the American and other non-African government at the time, and the few centuries, leading up to Garvey’s time.  Therefore in context it is clear that Garvey’s idea’s and sayings concerning separation, was a cry to African’, if this is the case, then lets not squabble or use our energies to get these governments to include us, but that we should use all our energies to do for ourselves.  line-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance in world history & heritage?line-break1globeGarvey’s actual words and sayings can also be of great importance to non-African, once put into context.  Reason being after research and study of these words, it can be clearly see that none could be remotely construed as racist or anti white or even disrespectful to any non-African.  In fact these words and sayings are actually some of the most powerful pleas to the rest of humanity to not only allow us the opportunity to do for ourselves, to ensure for ourselves a better condition and future in world affairs for the generations to come, but also but for the rest of humanity, to help in any way possible to assist us in these endeavours for both Africans and the benefit of non-Africans.    line-break1HERE ARE SOME  KEY AREAS TO RESEARCHline-break1God_Neter_Bullet2Garvey’s Words:- You Must Find out: About the Speeches | Articles | Motto’s & Slogans | Books heritage?line-break1africaIt is very important for Africans to truly understand Marcus Garvey influence on the African world at the time of his leadership of the UNIA, but also since he has passed away.  In fact this influence would be very hard to measure, either then or now, as Garvey’s influence has been and is still today universal in regards to the aspirations of African Black people, and has and continues to influences African from every level of society, in countries whereever Africans can be found.  Nevertheless it is important however to try and measure this influence, which can be achieved by research and study of all the people and groups, both at present and in the past who have and do, recognise the influence that Marcus Garvey legacy has had upon them.  This is not hard to do either as most Africans with a genuine desire to uplift African black people, often credit or quote Garvey as a symbol and influence that can even today still achieve their aspirations.  line-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance in world history & heritage?line-break1globeThe importance and relevance of Marcus Garvey’s influence in the world, particularly amongst Black African people can be of great significance and benefit to non-Africans in order for them to be better aware of some of these influences that have produced some of the most loved and respected Black people, revered the world over, people such as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela to name but a few.  In addition to these individuals, knowledge of others who were directly influenced by Marcus Garvey’s idea’s and legacy, can offer a very good picture to what Garvey’s vision actually was, not only for Africans but for humanity.  This is evident when we considered that nearly every first native African leaders of the newly independent African countries, often paid tribute, some even in their inauguration ceremonies or speeches, proving that through Garvey’s vision and influence a truly United States of Africa can be realised.     line-break1KEY TOPICS TO RESEARCHline-break1God_Neter_Bullet2Influence in Africa:-  You Must Find out: About is this topic’s specific relevance and significance to African people & their heritage?line-break1africaIt is also very important that African people are aware of Marcus Garvey’s specific words and advice in regards to a realist uplift strategy and programme for Africans to engage where they find themselves and under what ever circumstance.  This advice also deals with all and every aspect of life, socially educationally, politically, spiritually and so on.  Without a proper investigation of this advice, it can  be easily misrepresented or interpreted as something it is not. Through this research and study however it will be seen clearly that all of Garvey’s advice in regards to Race Uplift, focus simple upon one overriding principle, do for self, don’t wait for other to do for you what you should be doing for yourself. This is basically the culmination of all Garvey’s advice.  The importance of this study is therefore to analyse how to achieve this in all and every aspect of your life.line-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance in world history & heritage?line-break1globeIt is importance for non-Africans to also understand the importance, relevance and significance of Garvey’s advice concern the methodology and ideology African’s should engage to lift themselves in world affairs. This advice when known can clearly indicate that their was no negative conations in Garvey’s advice, in addition to the fact that this advice and this uplift would not be a the expense or detriment of non-African’s, but to the contrary, possibly improve relations as well as respect between the different ethnic groups.  This is important as most people both non-Africans and African people themselves, often have idea’s of a radical, extremist, anti-white, racist, violient and abusive tyrant to taught a doctrine to help continue and even intensify the already well establish human divide.  But to the contrary, Garvey’s actual words and advice, is far from any of these above cited ideologies, but represents one of the few ideology propagated by African’s or non-African’s at present or in the past, that could potentially, erase this divide, to insure a true equality and brother-sisterhood of all human beings.     line-break1KEY TOPICS TO RESEARCHline-break1God_Neter_Bullet2Garvey’s Uplift Strategy:- You Must Find out: About the Popular Slogans | School of African Philosophy Course | Speeches specific to Race uplift | Books by & aboutline-break1[/su_tab] [su_tab title=”TOPIC 5″]TOPIC 5: GARVEY’S RELEVANCE IN 21st CENTURYline-break1What is this topic’s specific relevance and significance to African people & their heritage?line-break1africaAs mentioned Garvey’s life and legacy is of the greatest importance for African people, particularly at present as we begin our collective journey into the 21st century.  Garvey relevance for African’s specifically is for them to analyse and devise a modern strategy that can appropriate those elements and principles of Garvey’s idea’s that can be beneficial for us in devising a strategy to change our current, seemingly hopeless situation.  Enough information exist about Garvey life , his words and his achievement in order for individuals themselves to utilise this available material to devise for themselves a strategy that can be beneficial, productive and relevant to their current experience. This can be achieve on either an individual or collective basis.
